Scoring Inexpensive Car Insurance
70Whatever car they drive, be it a sensible four door family sedan or a big shiny sports car most people do not want to overpay for their car insurance. Car insurance is one of those expenses in life that we really don’t have a choice about – after all in most states it is mandated by law – but that does not mean that we all shouldn’t take the time to secure the most inexpensive car insurance we can.
There are dozens of car insurance companies out there, some better known than others. Some of them you remember because of their adverts. There’s the company with the lizard and the cavemen, the one with the goofy girl and her price gun and then there’s that serious chap with nice voice.
You really should not base your car insurance decisions around these kinds of ads though (even though that is exactly what these companies are hoping you will do.) but instead to ensure you get the most inexpensive car insurance possible you need to do your research and shop around a bit before you buy.
Most of us don’t have the time to spend hours every day on the phone with several different car insurance companies but fortunately there are other, slightly more convenient ways you can compare a number of different insurance policies to find the most inexpensive car insurance rates possible.
One way is to work with a reputable independent car insurance broker. These individuals do all the leg work for you and can sometimes negotiate a rate that is far better than anything you could have secured on your own simply because they have the industry experience and the ‘contacts” to do so. If you are considering going this route ask around amongst your friends, family and colleagues to see if they have anyone they can recommend.
The internet has also made shopping for inexpensive car insurance much easier. There are a number of online services that will help you get a number of different insurance companies to give you a quote, usually at no cost to you. Once you have all the quotes you can then compare them side by side in the comfort of your own home or office before you buy any policy.
There are also several things you yourself can do to get a better car insurance rate. A car with airbags and/or anti-lock brakes will qualify for lower rates than cars that don’t have them so if yours does not consider having them installed if at all possible. The same holds true for anti-theft devices. Car alarms may be annoying at times but having one can help make sure that you score the most inexpensive car insurance possible.
Then there is the way you drive. Maintaining a clean driving record (no speeding tickets) is of course a great way to make sure your car insurance rates stay as low as possible but even if you are the safest driver in the world if you take an afternoon to participate in a defensive driving course you will score even bigger points in the insurance companies eyes.
